Gopher hockey player Jay Barriball was hurt during practice Tuesday and will miss this weekend's series against Wisconsin for sure, and may even be out for the season.
The senior winger underwent an MRI Wednesday morning to determine the extent of the injury. and more news is expected soon.
In five games this season, Barriball notched two goals and two assists. In his four-year career, the San Jose draftee (now property of the St. Louis Blues) has notched 39-63-102 in 125 games.
The loss of Barriball will hurt this weekend when the Gophers travel to Wisconsin. A tough month is ahead for the Gophers as it is, with stops at Wisconsin this weekend, followed by home series against Bemidji State and UMD, and then road games at Michigan and Michigan State. Defenseman Nick Leddy will miss the entire month as it is, and Barriball's loss hurts even more for a team which finally received some much-needed goal scoring against Alaska-Anchorage last weekend.
